The Physics of Pokémon: Where Density Makes No Sense
Cosmoem weighs 999.9kg but stands just 4 inches tall — making it denser than a neutron star. An exploration of absurd Pokémon physics.
I've always wondered about the physical stats of Pokémon. Are there any wild outliers in height and weight?
Oh, there absolutely are. Let me show you the top 100 heaviest Pokémon plotted by height vs weight.
See that dot in the upper left corner? That's Cosmoem — it's only 0.1 meters tall (about 4 inches) but weighs 999.9 kg (over 2,200 pounds). It's literally the same height as Flabébé, a tiny fairy that weighs 0.1 kg. Same height, but Cosmoem is **10,000 times heavier**.
That's insane. How does that compare to other Pokémon in terms of density?
Let's calculate volume density (mass divided by estimated volume) for all Pokémon. Assuming roughly spherical shapes, here are the densest:
Cosmoem's density is approximately **999,900 kg/m³**. The second densest Pokémon, Poltchageist, clocks in at about 2,200 kg/m³. Cosmoem is over **450 times denser** than the runner-up.
For reference, water is 1,000 kg/m³. Lead is 11,340 kg/m³. Cosmoem's density approaches that of a white dwarf star. Its classification? "Protostar Pokémon." The lore checks out.
Can you show me all the Pokémon that are exactly 0.1 meters tall? I want to see how ridiculous that weight comparison really is.
Here's every Pokémon standing at exactly 0.1 meters — the tiniest height class in the Pokédex:
All of these Pokémon are the same 4-inch height. Flabébé, Cutiefly, Gimmighoul — they weigh between 0.1 and 1.1 kg, as you'd expect for something that small. Then there's Cosmoem at 999.9 kg, completely breaking the scale.
You could stack **9,999 Flabébé** on a scale and still not match one Cosmoem.
What about the opposite — are there Pokémon with similar weight but wildly different heights?
Great question. Let me show you the "900kg+ Club" — every Pokémon weighing over 900 kg — sorted by height:
Eternatus stands at 20 meters tall. Celesteela is 9.2 meters. Groudon is 8.5 meters. These are massive creatures.
And then there's Cosmoem, barely visible on the right at 0.1 meters. Same weight class, but Eternatus is **200 times taller**.
Pokémon physics: where a 4-inch protostar weighs as much as a 65-foot space dragon.
